Russian Defense Ministry refutes accusations of shooting civilians in Chernigov

16.03.2022, Moscow.

Major General Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, said to reporters on March 16 that the incident in Chernigov is either a staged video of the shooting of civilians in Chernigov produced by the SBU or the civilians became victims of Ukrainian radicals.

Konashenkov said that video footage of civilians killed in Chernigov was distributed simultaneously on all Ukrainian propaganda resources today. The video reports that the people were allegedly “shot by Russian servicemen.” It is reported that all of the dead were allegedly standing in line for bread.

“I would like to emphasize: there were and are no Russian servicemen in Chernigov. All units of the Russian armed forces are outside Chernigov, blocking roads, and are not conducting any offensive actions on the city,” Konashenkov said.

The military officer said that the videos distributed by the SBU show no traces of ammunition bursts, all window panes in buildings nearby are intact, the walls are intact, there are no traces of explosions on the ground.

“Thus, all the dead people are victims of Ukrainian nationalists’ terror, or these videos are another SBU staging,” Konashenkov explained.

Konashenkov also noted that in addition to Ukrainian resources, this staged video, without any verification or evidence, was published on the official social media pages of the US Embassy in Ukraine. As the general stated, the embassy itself, as you know, has long been not even in Kiev, but in Lvov. And absolutely does not notice how the Russian military delivers and distributes humanitarian aid to residents of the Chernigov region in towns and villages liberated from radicals.
