Kurginyan: Ukrainian nation can exist only in ties with Russia

14.03.2022, Moscow.

Ukrainian culture can exist and develop its potential for independence only in close connection with Russian culture, political scientist and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on air of The Great Game program on Channel One on March 12.

Kurginyan expressed confidence that Ukrainian culture achieves greatness only through close interaction with Russian culture – then Gogol or other geniuses emerge, then it is capable of producing some kind of originality.

As soon as it breaks away from Russian, it immediately begins to die,” the political scientist said.

Kurginyan explained that the same principle works for the Ukrainian nation as a whole: it can express and develop its identity only in close contact with the Russian world, and any attempt to detach Ukraine from the Russian world will only lead to the destruction of the Ukrainian identity.

Let’s put aside the question of whether there is a Ukrainian nation – there is some kind of ethnic peculiarity: South Russian or the like… If it all is close to Russia, it can live. So those who tear this away even from the Soviet past, and even further from the Russian as a whole, they are destroying Ukraine! They are not reshaping it, they will simply destroy it!” – stressed the political scientist.

In the monograph “Ukrainism,” its authors, who are members of the Essence of Time movement, defined the current Ukrainian anti-Russian identity not as an organic consequence of the true history of Ukraine, but as a product of a pseudo-historical construct, which was called “Ukrainism.”

The authors show that this construct was created to play against Russia, but the very concept of “Ukrainism” turns out to be dangerous, first and foremost, for Ukraine itself.
