In the course of a special military operation in Ukraine, Russia has discovered that Kiev is hastily covering up traces of a bioweapons program supported by the US Department of Defense, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said at a meeting of the organization’s Security Council on March 11.
“We convened today’s meeting because during Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, truly shocking facts of the Kiev regime’s urgent sweeping of traces of a military-biological program implemented by Kiev with the support of the US Department of Defense were revealed,” Nebenzya said.
A network of at least 30 biological laboratories has been created on the territory of Ukraine, in which dangerous research aimed at strengthening the pathogenic properties of plague, anthrax, tularemia, cholera and other deadly diseases is conducted with the help of synthetic biology, Nebenzya noted. This is evidenced by documents that have come into the possession of the Russian Defense Ministry.
“This work is being carried out with funding and direct supervision of the US Defense Department’s Office of Military Threat Reduction, including in the interests of the US National Center for Medical Intelligence of the Defense Intelligence Agency,” the diplomat stressed. A key role in it was played by a laboratory in Odessa at the Ukrainian I.I. Mechnikov Scientific Research Anti-Plague Institute with BSL-3 level of protection, the Russian representative added.
“The results of the study were sent to US military and biological centers, including the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the US Naval Medical Research Center, as well as military laboratories at Fort Detrick, which used to be key sites of the US biological weapons program,” Nebenzya noted.
Now Kiev is urgently covering up traces of these studies at the request of supervisors from the West, so that they do not fall into Russia’s possession and do not confirm the violation by the US and Ukraine of Article 1 of the Biological Weapons Convention, the diplomat stressed. “There is an emergency curtailment of biological programs. The Ukrainian Ministry of Health has set the task of completely destroying the bioagents in the laboratories since February 24,” Nebenzya said.
