04.03.2022, Moscow.

The Zaporozhzhye nuclear power plant is operating in normal mode, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said at a briefing on March 4.

“Right now the personnel of Zaporozhzhye nuclear power plant continues to work in a normal mode, maintain the plant facilities and monitor the radioactive situation. The radioactive background in the area of the power plant is normal,” Konashenkov said.

He also said that on the night of March 3 to 4 the Ukrainian authorities tried to organize a provocation on the territory of the nuclear power plant. A National Guard of Russia patrol was attacked by a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group. Fire was opened from the windows of the training complex located on the territory of the nuclear power plant. All firing points were suppressed.

The purpose of the provocation, according to Konashenkov, was an attempt to accuse Russia of “creating a hotbed of radioactive contamination.”

Earlier it was reported that the Russian military took control of the town of Energodar and the territory of the nuclear power plant.
