An agreement on joint security of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has been reached between Russian and Ukrainian servicemen, the Russian Defense Ministry informed on February 25.
It is noted that the radioactive background in the area of the plant is normal, and plant personnel continue to maintain facilities of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
It is reported that security of Chernobyl power units and sarcophagus is ensured jointly by Russian paratroopers and Ukrainian soldiers of the nuclear power plant security battalion.
Experts say that one of the goals of this operation by Russian troops was to prevent Ukrainian nationalists from entering the territory of the plant to carry out provocations with radioactive materials.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian Armed Forces took under their control the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the surrounding territory.
