There was no resistance from Ukrainian army units during the seizure of Melitopol, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press service reported on February 26.
“On the evening of February 25, after the naval landing near the settlement of Azovskoye (Ukraine), Russian units marched and entered Melitopol without encountering resistance,” the message stated.
The report pointed out that local residents welcomed the passing columns of the Russian armed forces. Some retirees went out on the street with red flags.
Since February 24, 2022, the Russian army has been conducting a special operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. Russian troops are also supporting the liberation of DPR and LPR territories from the Ukrainian occupation.
