Chairman of Russian State Duma: Everything changed after Zelensky’s decision on nuclear weapons

24.02.2022, Moscow.

Russia’s concerns that the United States has crossed out all previous agreements were confirmed after Zelensky’s statements about wanting to possess nuclear weapons, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel on February 24.

“The United States, by expanding NATO eastward, has crossed out the agreements and arrangements of previous years. All our concerns were confirmed after Zelensky’s statements about the desire to possess nuclear capabilities,” Volodin wrote.

He stressed that the US had created a situation that would lead to a major war.

“It was Washington that created the situation, without resolving which the world would inevitably face a large-scale war. This cannot be allowed,” Volodin wrote.

The Duma speaker noted that the US and NATO rejected Russia’s proposals on global security. Kiev has been refusing to implement the Minsk agreements for eight years now. The only option left, according to Volodin, is to demilitarize Ukraine.

“Given that Washington and Brussels have rejected Russia’s proposals on global security issues, and that Kiev has refused to implement the Minsk agreements for all eight years, the demilitarization of Ukraine is the only option left. A path that will prevent a war in Europe. The only way to stop the bloodsheet and humanitarian catastrophe,” Volodin wrote.

Volodin added that State Duma deputies support Putin’s decision to conduct a special peacekeeping operation.

“Its purpose is to protect the people living in Ukraine,” Volodin wrote.

He noted that he considers the Ukrainian people to be a fraternal nation. Volodin appealed to the Ukrainian people not to get involved in any mobilizations proposed by the Kiev authorities.

“I appeal to the citizens of Ukraine: we have considered and consider you a fraternal people. The actions of our country are aimed exclusively at the protection of peace. We ask you not to get involved and not to participate in any mobilizations proposed by the Kiev authorities. They are not independent, all orders are given by Washington and Brussels,” Volodin wrote.

He specified that civilians are not threatened by the special operation.

“We are one people. Remember our common history. We have common victories. One culture, one faith. Ask your loved ones who serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine to lay down their arms. They do not need to take part in defending the interests of NATO and the United States, carrying out the criminal orders of the Kiev anti-people regime,” Volodin wrote.

The head of the State Duma suggested thinking about a common future, that the peoples of Russia and Ukraine should live in friendship, harmony and remember that our grandfathers and fathers fought together for this.

“We cannot be indifferent to the fate of Ukraine. Let us think about the future, we have it in common. We must live in friendship, harmony, remember that our grandfathers and fathers fought together for this,” Volodin wrote.

Addressing the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, Volodin called on his colleagues for prudence and will, and if they love their homeland, to do everything to make Ukraine a peaceful state.

“Many of you do not like the fact that your country has lost its sovereignty and US advisers are sitting in ministries and departments,” Volodin stated.

He stressed that Russia had never been Ukraine’s enemy. Commenting on the special operation, Volodin recalled that the people’s republics of Donbass had asked for help.

“The citizens of Ukraine – your voters – are waiting for help from our country,” Volodin wrote.

He added in conclusion that it is now necessary to decide how Russia and Ukraine will live from now on.

“Now is the time of choice for you,” Volodin wrote.
