Opinion: Ukraine is being used to destroy European sovereignty

11.02.2022, Moscow.

The US and the UK are escalating tensions around Ukraine, “supplying weapons and private military companies (PMC)” in order to deprive Europe of the remaining sovereignty, said military expert Alexei Leonkov, editor of the Arsenal Otechestva (Arsenal of the Fatherland) military magazine in a commentary for Rossa Primavera News Agency.

Russia, has been demonized and painted as the main threat to Europe during the last eight years since the Ukrainian Maidan project came about, as the country that “annexed Crimea”, explained the expert. Enormous funds were invested in order to create and promote this imaginary Russian threat.

The UK and the US hoped that by doing so “they would be able to finally tie a noose around Europe’s neck. In order to implement it, they even came up with a new strategy called NATO-2030. European countries were finally losing their sovereignty and became completely subordinate to NATO, a political and military alliance.”

The plan didn’t work. Now, according to the military expert, there is only one thing left – to use Ukraine to carry out a more powerful act of intimidation,  “make Europe obey the US without any conditions.”

The US and the UK have only one instrument left which they can use for their benefit. They count on the use of force. They believe that if they use the force, that is, if they provoke Ukraine into military action, then this will produce the results,” said Leonkov.

On February 7, negotiations were held between Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to some analysts, the main purpose of the visit was to reduce the degree of hysteria whipped up by the Anglo-Saxon world around the situation in Ukraine.

Although there is no specific information about the details of the negotiations, it can be assumed that specific proposals aimed at resolving the crisis around Ukraine were discussed, along with proposals on European security issues.

Also, the talks which were held with British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss on February 10, were described by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as a conversation between “the mute and the deaf“.

In recent months, Western politicians and the Western media have launched an intense information and propaganda campaign alleging that Russia is preparing an aggression against Ukraine. Kremlin has repeatedly denied such accusations. In particular, Dmitry Peskov, Russian Presidential Press Secretary, noted that Russia does not threaten anyone and is not going to attack anyone.

However, the activity and frequency of statements from Western politicians and officials only increased. Recently, NATO countries have begun to robustly supply offensive weapons to Kiev.

In addition, NATO countries announced the strengthening of their troops contingence in Eastern Europe, as well as transferring new military units and personnel to the region.
