Nebenzia: The West strives to prevent fraternal relations between Russia and Ukraine

01.02.2022, New York.

Western countries want to prevent fraternal coexistence between Russia and Ukraine, said Vasily Nebenzia, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN, on January 31 during a US-initiated meeting of the Security Council on the situation around Ukraine.

“Their goal is to prevent the natural, fraternal coexistence of our two countries and peoples, which would destroy plans to weaken Russia, to form an arc of instability around it,” said Nebenzya, noting that this, however, is not something new.

According to the diplomat, the “divide and conquer” type strategies were typical for Western countries in the past. He pointed to the fact that the idea that for its bright future Ukraine needs to strive at all costs to join the EU and NATO, and not to improve relations with its neighbors, is now being actively pounded into the Ukrainian people’s heads. Radical anti-Russian sentiments are massively cultivated.

“They ban the Russian language… They provoke a church schism, make heroes of those who fought on the side of Hitler, exterminated Jews, Poles, Ukrainians and Russians,” said Nebenzya.

Recently, the Western media has been actively spreading information that Russia, allegedly, is about to attack Ukraine. At the same time, Moscow is actively threatened with various sanctions if this happens.

At the same time, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the US itself is conducting provocative military maneuvers near Russian borders, as well as drawing Ukraine “into the NATO’s orbit.” Washington is pushing the Kiev regime to carry out direct provocations against Russia, stressed Lavrov.

Today, the UN Security Council on the situation around Ukraine is taking place in New York. The meeting was convened at the request of the US. According to Dmitry Polyanskiy, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, the meeting initiated by the US is a PR stunt, shameful for the reputation of the Security Council.
