17.09.2021, Moscow.

A new step in the development of the work of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is the creation of united military police for member countries, military expert, editor-in-chief of the magazine National Defense Igor Korotchenko said on September 17 to Rossa Primavera News Agency.

“In this case, the military police under the aegis of the CSTO will ensure the fulfillment of their tasks to maintain the statutory order and prevent possible violations,” Korotchenko commented on the agreement of the CSTO countries signed the day before in Dushanbe.

He added that the united military police will see to the order, regardless of the state which certain servicemen represent.

“This is a new step in the development of the organization. That is, there will be de facto supranational structures,” the military expert noted.

According to him, military police will be effective when collective rapid deployment forces perform joint tasks, or when CSTO members form coalition groupings of troops.

Korotchenko noted that agreements on military police will provide a basis for joint work of various CSTO groups in certain areas.

“The most urgent is the Afghan [direction]. It is possible that we will have to deploy such groups on the territory of, for example, Tajikistan,” Korotchenko specified. In his opinion, in this case it would be necessary to involve the CSTO military police.

On September 16, representatives of the CSTO countries signed an agreement of cooperation at the meeting of the Collective Security Council in Dushanbe. Within the framework of the agreements, united military police, military investigation, military prosecutor’s office, and military courts will be organized.
