Kremlin sees US statements on Ukraine joining NATO as a direct threat

05.09.2021, Moscow.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that US statements on Washington’s possible readiness for the admission of Ukraine to NATO are being seen by the Kremlin as a threat, REGNUM News Agency reports on September 5.

Peskov explained that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky demonstrates his desire and intention to join NATO, while the USA set some conditions under which it will be glad to admit Ukraine to the alliance with open arms.

“It is a direct threat for Russia. It is all about the possible approaching of the NATO military infrastructure to our borders”, said the Press Secretary.

According to Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin will at least make an effort to prevent the use of Russian historical lands against Russia.

Peskov said that the results of the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky are in line with the realization of the project that aims to make Ukraine anti-Russia. The Press Secretary stressed that he relies on those moments that “Moscow obviously does not like”.
