Polish Prime Minister names goal of Nord Stream-2 for Russia

22.07.2021, Warsaw.

Russia’s rearmament will result from profiting from the Nord Stream-2 pipeline, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told journalists at a press conference in Bialystok on July 22, the Polish Press Agency reported.

The Polish politician negatively assessed the agreement between Germany and the US on the issue of completing and commissioning the pipeline. “We tried from the very beginning to convince our German and American partners that this project would help Russia arm itself,” Morawiecki said.

This will give even more power in addition to an already very armed Russia, according to the Pole. “So this is the wrong project,” the prime minister said.

He also said that Poland has made progress toward independence from Russia. Five years ago, the country’s authorities decided to buy less Russian gas. And now “Poles are safer thanks to the preventive measures taken,” Morawiecki explained.
