Kurginyan: Solving Russia’s demographic problems is no excuse for the collapse of the USSR

20.07.2021, Aleksandrovkoye.

The statement that the disintegration of the USSR was an attempt to avoid demographic domination by the southern Islamic population holds no water, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on July 15 on the air of the Tema program on the Union channel.

“This kind of a version exists, and the president briefly outlined it. It is quite disputable, but it could have been accepted if the collapse had not involved Belarus and Ukraine,” Kurginyan explained discussing Vladimir Putin’s article “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians.”

“If we want all the time to create a state that is free of domination by southern Islamic due to its rapid demographic growth, the first thing we need is Ukraine and Belarus. Only then would we be able to counterbalance it,” the political scientist stressed, indicating that these are the states the collapse of the USSR affected most.

The political scientist indicated that all the confrontation that exists between the three countries ― Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine ― is absolutely irrational.

“They have been put in a situation where they cannot reunite, and they no idea how and where they should confront each other,” Kurginyan said.

On July 12, the Kremlin Press Service published Putin’s article “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians.” In this article the Russian leader discusses key historical milestones of the development of Russians and Ukrainians from the earliest times until today. In particular, the president discusses why the USSR disintegrated.

Also, in his article Putin wrote about the unity of the Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Russian people.
