Collective Security Treaty Organization task force arrives in Tajikistan because of the situation on the Afghan border

A task force headed by Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Joint Staff, arrived in Tajikistan. The CSTO press service informed journalists about this on July 6.

“On July 6, the task force headed by Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, arrived in Tajikistan. A group of officers was flown from Moscow to Dushanbe by a plane of the Russian Aerospace Forces,” the press service said.

The task force plans to make field trips to the southern border regions of Tajikistan and meet with the leadership of the Tajik Defense Ministry, border guards of the State Committee on National Security, and other military ministries and departments.

Earlier today, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that Russia is ready to assist Tajikistan in connection with the situation in northern Afghanistan. According to him, Russia continues military contacts with Tajikistan and keeps a close eye on the situation. He added that if additional efforts are necessary, they will be undertaken.

Yesterday, Zabiullah Mujahid, a representative of the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) movement, announced that the Afghan Government would not be able to gain control over the northern areas of the country bordering Tajikistan that were occupied by the Taliban (organization banned in Russia).

Also on July 5, commenting on this situation, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov stated that the issue of introducing a Russian military contingent into the region due to the deteriorating situation on the Tajik-Afghan border is not considered
