The entire international context and the internal political situation in both countries prevent any improvements in the US-Russia relations, said political analyst, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on June 4 on the Topic program on the Donetsk Union TV channel.
Commenting the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the political scientist noted that the success of such diplomatic summits is determined by the willingness to change, the mutual trust and a common agenda, “issues in a system of common interests.” According to Kurginyan, none of them are present: “there is no willingness on the part of the US,” there is no trust, there is no common agenda.
“There is a context, a certain global informational background at the moment. It doesn’t show that tensions will soften,” explained the expert.
In addition, the analyst pointed to the fact that the internal political situation in both countries works against the softening of tensions in public relations.
“Incidentally, elections in Russia are also coming soon. And when certain officials in Russia say that everyone is tired of confrontation with the US, the patriotic majority, which will greatly influence the election results, is not tired of it at all. To be more accurate, it understands that in the US they are not tired, and they are not at all going to bury their heads in the sand like ostriches,” noted Kurginyan.
He mentioned the statement made by Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation regarding the coronavirus, that SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) coronavirus is a biological weapon designed and produced at Fort Detrick, Maryland. This statement “does not mean in any way that we are moving towards some kind of softening at a political level, when an election campaign is about to start,” emphasized the political analyst.
The balance of power in the US also does not inspire hope for a softening of relations between the two countries, believes the expert.
“In the US, the forces that pressure Biden not to make big concessions are outright dominating. It’s the Republicans who, as soon as Biden makes concessions, will say, ‘You bastard! Did we say that we were making concessions? You are the one who does it, you bastard, you’re making concessions,” explained the expert. According to him, the US Democratic Party also “will not allow these concessions.“
Kurginyan pointed to the fact that Biden is loyal to the ideological doctrine that divides countries into democratic and authoritarian states. “Where are they going to go with this idea of authoritarian states? Who will they poke at first of all? Russia! It won’t be Hungary … Nor will they poke at China, where they would have to cut economic ties. They will poke at Russia. It will be their main point of attack,” warned the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
“Everything that constitutes the context of the upcoming talks… indicates that storm clouds are gathering,” concluded Sergey Kurginyan.
