Kurginyan: Belovezhye Accords are a crime with no statute of limitations

The repeal of Soviet legislation to initiate the disintegration of the USSR is a crime with no statute of limitations, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 16 in the Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov on the Russia One channel.

“The criminals, who wiped out the entire legal basis of the democratic society (because the Union parliament was absolutely democratic) and the entire legal basis of agreements after the State Committee on the State of Emergency, committed a crime,” the political scientist stressed, reminding the Belovezhye Accords and the shelling of the Supreme Soviet.

Kurginyan noted that in addition to the criminal nature of these actions, they had no true basis, because the law stipulated the opportunity for the union republics to secede. However, according to the law of the USSR “On Secession,” their assets had to be left with the union center for at least the entire transition period.

“Did Armenia want to secede? Then it should secede according to the exit procedure for a union republic, i.e. taking nothing with it. This was stipulated by the democratically adopted law,” the leader of the Essence of Time reminded.

The violation of the legitimate democratic procedure, according to Kurginyan, is the root of the improper nature of the post-Soviet world order.

“We have the right to discuss this not only now, but even ten years from now,” the expert stressed the criminal nature of those events. “This is a constant, a skeleton in the closet, a crime that is fundamental to the post-Soviet world order. This crime has no statute of limitations.”
