Polish political scientist: Poland needs the concept of victory

18.05.2021, Warsaw.

The leader of the Zmiana party Mateusz Piskorski called to remember the Polish heroes who fought together with the Red Army to liberate Warsaw from Nazi Germany, the InoSMI website reported on May 12.

The political scientist recalled that together with the Red Army, tens of thousands of Poles fought for the freedom of Poland. He believes that by recognizing their feat of arms, it would be possible to give Polish youth an example to follow. Piskorski understands that his concept will not be interesting to those being in power in the country at the moment as they pursue exclusively on anti-Soviet politics.

The portal notes that May 9 does not have the status of a holiday in Poland. Despite the facts of the death of about 600,000 Red Army soldiers who contributed to the liberation of Warsaw from Nazi Germany, and despite the Nazis’ intention to destroy 80-85% of the Polish population following the German Generalplan Ost, May 9 in Poland is considered the beginning of a new occupation, but this time the Soviet one.

This concept, imposed by the state Institute of National Remembrance in Poland, which the journalist of Sputnik Polska Jarosław Augustyniak also discusses, silences the Polish heroes of the Second World War, who together with the Red Army defended Poland and reached Berlin. Piskorski believes that in order to afford to remember these heroes it is necessary to reflect on the very essence of Polish identity.
