Historian urges to support restoration of Dzerzhinsky monument

26.02.2021, Moscow.

Returning the Dzerzhinsky monument to the Lubyanka Square is not only a political, but also a cultural and esthetical issue, historian and political scientist Boris Yakemenko wrote on his Telegram channel on February 25.

According to Yakemenko, he has repeatedly explained his opinion why the Dzerzhinsky monument should be returned to the Lubyanka Square.

“This is not only a political, but also a cultural and esthetical issue,” Yakemenko wrote.

He stressed that the proposal to choose between Dzerzhinsky and Aleksandr Nevsky made by Editor-in-Chief of the Ekho Moskvy radio station Aleksey Venediktov is speculative.

“Venediktov’s campaigning for Nevsky is absolutely speculative. Venediktov supports not Nevsky but whoever it be to prevent the return of the Dzerzhinsky monument. Therefore, it is important to support the initiative to restore the monument and the entire ensemble of the Square,” the historian concluded.
