Kurginyan: The new US administration can kick up a storm around Donbass

03.02.2021, Moscow.

The rise of Joe Biden’s administration to power in the US will result in a new spiral of militarization of Ukraine and its engagement in another military confrontation with the Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republics, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on January 21 on the air of Radio Union.

Kurginyan reminded that the new US leader, when he was the vice president under Barack Obama, pushed the Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko towards a military resolution of the Donbass crisis.

“As we remember, Mr. Biden had friendly relations with Poroshenko’s team, who were the main war hawks. I believe that both Zelensky and Poroshenko are equally oriented towards war. However, Poroshenko’s orientation to war was more declarative, more straightforward, and he did wage it,” the political scientist noted.

Now, according to the political scientist, after Biden came back to the political Olympus, “as his relations with Poroshenko are much closer than those with Zelensky,” Ukraine can be drawn into a storm of military conflicts with its neighbors.

“Zelensky has been playing a dubious game, and now one may wonder whether he might happen to be a Trumpist. And now to be a Trumpist is something much worse than being a communist during the McCarthy era (Joseph McCarthy was a far-right US republican senator who initiated political repression against those who had communist sympathies ― Rossa Primavera News Agency). However, Zelensky is going down in value at home. We may witness certain changes inside Ukraine, and these changes will also be militaristic,” Sergey Kurginyan noted.

In view of the fact that Russia has recently become “so bad” in the US eyes, the political scientist believes that Washington will build up power to resolve the Russian issue, “and the focus point of concentration will certainly be Ukraine.”

“Therefore, I think that the global changes, which may appear to be far away from Donetsk and Lugansk, can in fact kick up a storm that will come down right there. This is my sad interpretation of what is happening,” Kurginyan explained.
