Russia cannot yet fully secure its autonomy on the Internet, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said in an interview with the Donetsk Union TV channel on January 19.
“The other day one of our largest companies bought RuTube. <…> RuTube is flimsy with respect to YouTube. It takes much effort, even just human effort, to create our own truly autonomous Internet module,” Kurginyan said.
The leader of the Essence of Time movement noted that the problem of access to talent can become a serious obstacle to Russia’s independence on the Internet.
“We cannot fight back seriously enough against all these major international portals and the new expansion in the world of these Internet media outlets that strive for global domination. This means that they will, to a substantial degree, impose their picture on us,” Kurginyan stated.
The lack of control over the information field can lead to any kind of falsification, Kurginyan noted. “And the picture can be terrible: the conservative forces can win the election with 70%, and it would be presented as if Navalny won 100%,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement said.
Kurginyan expressed confidence that the information pressure on Russia will increase substantially, while at the economic pressure will increase simultaneously.
At the same time, the expert specified, “But since they have a lot of their own problems, I can’t say now to what extent they will plan everything, gather their forces into formation to invade ‘our Novgorod’ [Russia] as in the film ‘Alexander Nevsky’*. They have a lot of their own problems, and so, in principle, the picture I’m talking about will be mitigated by their need to address to their own problems.”
* Alexander Nevsky is famous historical Soviet drama film directed by Sergei Eisenstein which depicts the attempted invasion of Novgorod in the 13th century by the Teutonic Knights of the Holy Roman Empire and their defeat by Prince Alexander, known popularly as Alexander Nevsky.
