Situation continues to deteriorate: Donetsk People’s Republic reports new shelling

The situation on the contact line in Donbass continues to deteriorate, the press service of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) representation to the Joint Centre for Ceasefire Control and Coordination (JCCCC) reported on 17 December.

As press service noted, ten 120 mm mines were fired on the DPR territory near Shyrokyne village on Wednesday evening. Casualties were avoided as a result of the shelling.

As the DPR representative to the JCCCC noted, “…the current situation is of serious concern, the situation is deteriorating every day. The growing aggression of Ukrainian armed units must be stopped by any means to avoid further consequences – casualties (among) civilians.”

In addition, the Ukrainian military continues engineering work at their positions, which is a violation of the ceasefire agreements in the region.

Additional ceasefire measures are in effect in Donbass. They imply a complete ceasefire, a ban on the deployment of weapons in and near villages and towns, offensive and reconnaissance and sabotage activities. In addition, the parties to the conflict are not allowed to fortify the positions and use drones near the contact line by.

The existing measures also stipulate disciplinary responsibility for violations of the ceasefire. These measures to maintain the ceasefire must remain in effect until the conflict is fully resolved.
