The Crimean Supreme Court overturned an order that dismissed a criminal investigation into mass murders of Soviet citizens in Crimea during the Great Patriotic War, the Court’s press service reported on May 13.

The Office of the Prosecutor of Crimea requested the Republic’s Supreme Court to resume the investigation into the mass murder of Soviet citizens in the Republic during the Great Patriotic War.

“The Court approved the withdrawal of the decision made by Senior Investigator of the KGB Directorate for the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic Colonel Bashmakov,” the Supreme Court stressed.

The Court session took place behind closed doors, and the decision became effective on April 30, 2020, the press service added.

About 100 inspections and identifications were carried out and about 200 witnesses were interviewed during the criminal investigation initiated in 1969. Certain materials were handed over to the German Federal Republic for those responsible to be brought to justice, and the criminal investigation was closed.
