30.04.2020, Moscow.

Attempting to distort the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War and the role of the USSR threatens human rights, said the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova during an online conference with representatives of the Eurasian Union on April 29.

In her statement Moskalkova said that “without understanding the results of the Second World War, there would not be a modern international system for the protection of human rights.” At the same time, today “we are witnessing persistent systemic attempts to rewrite not so much the political as the ideological outcome of the Second World War, attempts to distort the historical truth,” she said.

According to the Ombudswoman, such attempts “pose a threat to peace and human rights.

The Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance was established in 2017 and includes Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Iran, Kirghizia, Mongolia and Armenia. Today, the Council has held a meeting in the format of an online meeting.
