Russian Senator says the West permanently lost moral leadership

The Western countries have permanently lost their right to moral leadership after they rejected Russia’s UN General Assembly resolution that would lift sanctions preventing other countries from fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Member of the Council of Federation Konstantin Kosachev wrote on his Facebook page on April 3.

“At the UN General Assembly, the Western countries, with Georgia and Ukraine that joined them, demonstratively opposed values, responsibility, and common sense by blocking Russia’s resolution aimed at lifting the sanctions that interfere with other countries’ fighting the coronavirus pandemic,” Kosachev wrote.

According to the senator, Russia’s resolution was in line with the call of the UN General Secretary António Guterres to lift the deadly sanctions and demonstrate solidarity. However, the West showed to the world the supremacy of egotism and intention to dictate its will to countries and people’s that think differently, even during a coronavirus pandemic.

“We cannot imagine stronger evidence that the West has totally lost, first of all, its moral leadership on the globe,” the senator stressed.

Kosachev also concluded that having committed this, the Western countries become rogue nations, which “became accustomed to talking on behalf of the international community,” but they have no right to do so anymore.

“In a situation when humanism and readiness to help the weaker ones should have been demonstrated, the egotistic bloc mentality prevailed,” Kosachev wrote in conclusion.
