Iran detains British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detained a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, the IRGC’s Public Relations Department said on July 19, the Iranian English-language news channel PressTV reports.

The Stena Impero tanker flying the British flag was detained in the Strait of Hormuz for having violated international maritime regulations. The IRGC’s Public Relations Department pointed out that the vessel was confiscated at the request of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization.

On July 11, US and British military authorities reported on an attempted seizure of a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy’s Press-Service denied these claims.
