US sanctions kill tens of thousands of children, but “Maduro is responsible”

22.06.2019, Washington.

Florida Senator Rick Scott called the president of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro the organizer of a genocide of his own people in his speech before the Atlantic Council on June 20.

According to Scott, “there’s a genocide happening in Venezuela right now.” In his speech, the senator from Florida exploited the image of “little children” who are being “intentionally starved” and blaming “tens of thousands dead” solely on the president of the Bolivarian Republic.

Then the face of the senator from Florida lit up as he spoke about the painful effects of US sanctions against Venezuela’s economy. “In the last month, we’ve seen [Venezuelan ― Rossa Primavera News Agency] oil revenues plummet. We’ve seen Venezuela selling off their gold reserves. We’ve seen the regime default on loans,” the Republican Senator said with an evil grin.

The USA has been waging a systematic economic war against Venezuela since Hugo Chávez democratically came to power. This economic war intensified after the death of Chávez, when his successor, Nicolás Maduro, was elected. However, after Juan Guaidó declared himself president of the country, the USA not only dramatically escalated the sanctions, but it also began using cyber-attacks against civilian facilities and to openly threaten the legitimate authorities of the country with a military invasion.

Editorial comment

The cynicism and shamelessness of the US Senate propagandist knows no bounds. Having correctly pointed out that genocide is taking place in Venezuela, he is presenting the instrument of this genocide, i.e. cannibalic sanctions by the United States and its subversive attacks against Venezuelan civilians, as an instrument of pressure on “Maduro who is responsible for the genocide.” Combining the policy of genocide with hypocritical moralizing, Washington demonstrates to the whole world that its only real allies are lies and terror.
