A group of ununiformed armed people opened fire on marchers in the municipality of Libertador de Caracas, local online outlet El-nacional reported on March 31.
According to El-nacional, at least two people were injured: a man and a woman with gunshot wounds were taken to the hospital.
El-nacional published photos and videos from Twitter made at the scene, where a protest march against another massive blackout took place on March 31. However, the photo and video captions allege that members of pro-government groups opened fire.
This is not the first case of massive blackouts in the Bolivarian Republic. The opposition blames the continued blackout on the Venezuelan government, while the authorities, in turn, attribute it to US and opposition hacker attacks against the Guri hydroelectric power plant’s software system.
The political crisis in Venezuela escalated in January when the opposition leader Juan Guaidó declared himself president of the country. He found support from a number of countries including the USA. On the other hand, Russia, Belarus, Iran, Bolivia, China, Cuba, Syria, Turkey and a number of other countries voiced support for the legitimate president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
Editorial comment
It must be noted that in the context of a state crisis, the opposition and Western media assign the role of “plain-clothes people” or “unidentified snipers” who “shoot at peaceful protesters” to “pro-government forces” or law enforcement officials. This kind of fake news is part of a well-developed “orange revolution” scenario, which is a foreign-controlled opposition executes.
For example, in Ukraine, the fire of coup d’etat was ignited after members of the local Berkut riot police unit were accused of shooting at protesters at the Maidan. A similar “technology” was used in Vilnius and Riga in 1991, in Libya in 2011, in Syria in 2011, and elsewhere.
