The USA is preparing a provocation at Venezuela’s borders, the Spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said on February 22, the Ministry’s press service reports.
The Ministry officials stressed that the events in Venezuela have approached a critical point.
“A dangerous large-scale provocation is scheduled for February 23: a Washington-instigated and orchestrated crossing of the Venezuelan border by a so-called humanitarian convoy, which can result in clashes between supporters and opponents, and which can create a convenient excuse for a military operation to remove the current legitimate president of the country,” the Foreign Ministry’s official said.
Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Spokeswoman said that the USA plan to supply weapons to the Venezuelan opposition in early March.
The political crisis in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which began after the leader of the Venezuelan Parliament declared himself as the interim president at a rally on January 23, has escalated. The USA makes no secret of its interest in changing the political regime in Venezuela.
