Talk that Leningrad should have been surrendered to the Germans in order to save many lives is full of deceit, stated Saint-Petersburg University, Professor Boris Petrovich Belozerov on January 27, a Rossa Primavera News Agency correspondent reports.
“Hitler gave a specific order, which stated that Leningrad must be destroyed through aerial attacks and artillery shelling. Even if people try to leave Leningrad, they must be killed. Moreover, the city was to be surrounded by tanks, so that the tank guns would be pointed at the city for destruction and specifically for the slaughter of people trying to escape the city. Once the city would be destroyed, it was to be flooded, so that no one would ever know that there had been a city here,” said Belozerov.
Today on January 27, St. Petersburg commemorates the 75th anniversary of the complete breakthrough of the Leningrad blockade. A multitude of solemn mourning and cultural events are dedicated to this anniversary.
