Lavrov: USA shifts responsibility onto its coalition partners in Syria

28.12.2018, Moscow.

We hear about the troop withdrawal from Syria, and Washington apparently wants to shift responsibility onto its coalition partners, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov said on December 28 at a joint news conference following talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Ayman Safadi.

According to Lavrov, it is not yet perfectly clear what the Americans are going to do in Syria. They recently announced the withdrawal from Syria, but “the USA does not always do what it promises.”

“The USA is now part of the coalition, which remains in force, ‘on the ground’ as well. It appears that Washington wants to shift responsibility onto its coalition partners. ‘On the ground’ these include French, British, and German servicemen who are present their illegitimately,” Lavrov explained.

Also, the USA has the Air Forces of the coalition and its allies in the region to shift the financial burden onto.

After the statements about the initiation of the US Air Force withdrawal from Syria President Trump said that now Ankara would continue the fight against ISIL (organization banned in Russia) on Syrian territory, while Saudi Arabia, on its side, would provide funds for the restoration of Syria. At the same time Trump said that the USA would conduct strikes against ISIL (organization banned in Russia) positions, if necessary, from Iraqi territory.
