The U.S. embargo on the delivery of arms to Ukraine was lifted, said the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker on October 18 during a meeting of the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C.
According to Volker, a few years ago the U.S. administration would consider this kind of move to be provocative. Now, the U.S. considers Ukraine to be a “normal state” that has rights to self-defense. He noted that the Ukrainian national security strategy has gaps, and that the allies should help to fill them.
Volker said that the weapons should not be used in Donbass.
In March, the U.S. declared an upcoming delivery of weapons to Ukraine that would include anti-tank missile systems and the corresponding guided missiles. The Volker’s statement provokes a series of questions: where will these weapons be used if not in the Donbass region?
