Syria and Iran agree on expanding military cooperation

Syrian and Iranian Defense Ministries signed an agreement which expands their military cooperation, IRNA reports on August 27.“This agreement creates a wide range of opportunities for the development of bilateral cooperation,” said Amir Khatami, the Iranian Defense Minister.

Syria has ended the military stage and began the reconstruction one, and the signing of such an agreement marks growing cooperation between Syria and Iran, said Ali Abdullah Ayyoub, the Syrian Defense Minister.

According to Khatami, Iran is ready to participate in the reconstruction of Syria, as well as to contribute to the weapons development.

On August 26, Amir Khatami, the Iranian Defense Minister, arrived to Syria for a two-day visit. He held talks with a number of Syrian ministers, as well as with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad.
