Not all White Helmets managed to leave Syria

23.07.2018, Paris.

One White Helmets group was unable to leave Syria during the evacuation of the organization’s members, France-Presse news agency reported on July 23 citing a source in the Canadian government, TASS reports.

Activists of the Syrian Civil Defense organization, better known as the White Helmets, as well as members of their families, were to be taken out by the Israeli military from Syria through the south-western border. One of the groups did not manage to arrive on time to the place of evacuation and remains on Syrian territory. The number of people in this group is not specified by the media. Those who managed to be taken out of the country are evacuated to Jordan. A number of countries, including Canada and Germany, have already expressed their agreement to host these Syrian refugees.

Earlier, the media reported that Israel evacuated 800 members of the White Helmets organization and their families from Syria at the request of the United States, Canada, and a number of European countries. Later, information on the number of refugees was revised.

According to the latest data, only 422 people were taken out of the country. This operation happened in connection with the military successes of the Syrian government forces in southern Syria. The Syrian Arab Republic authorities accuse the White Helmets of having ties to Al-Qaeda (an organization banned in Russia). Also, some experts believe that the White Helmets are being withdrawn from the country because they have already completely compromised themselves by spreading fake reports aimed at justifying the actions of the armed opposition and demonizing the policies of the legitimate Syrian government and its allies.
