Extremists shell Aleppo in honor of Erdogan’s victory, people killed

Civilians in the north of Aleppo in Syria came under massive attack by the extremists in honor of Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s victory in the presidential elections, reports a Rossa Primavera News Agency’s source in Syria on June 25.

The source reports that extremist groups’ militants acting in the region of the Turkish military’s Euphrates Shield operation started massive shooting in the region of Afrin and Azaz to the west of Aleppo. The shooting resulted in the death of two civilians, many were injured.

According to the source, a motive for the shelling was the victory of the sitting president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the early presidential elections that took place on June 24.

Operation Olive Branch (earlier the Turkish military offensive in the region was conducted under the name Euphrates Shield) started in January 2018. The officially declared aim of the Turkish forces’ invasion is fighting against extremist armed groups, first of all, Kurdish forces. In March 2018 Turkey took control of the city of Afrin in the north of Syria.
