Maria Zakharova spoke regarding the ongoing US occupation of an area near Al Tanf, Syria at the Foreign Ministry’s press briefing on February 15 .
According to Zakharova, a 55 km belt around Al Tanf is still occupied by the US, and it has essentially become a “safe zone” for radical Islamists, who have yet to be destroyed.
Also, Maria Zakharova emphasized the provocative actions by the US beyond the Euphrates. While demonstrating loyalty to their Kurdish allies, the US forces almost openly confronted the Syrian government forces. Also, according to the Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, the US is provoking Turkey by sending more and more convoys with weapons for Kurdish groups through Iraqi territory.
The US military has been deployed in a number of Syrian regions. In addition to a military base near Al Tanf, the US military is also present in the city of Manbij in northern Syria. They provide support to Kurdish groups from the People’s Protection Units (YPG).
