Russian FM: USA wants to dismember Syria

07.02.2018, Moscow.

The USA Government has plans to dismember Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said as a part of a masterclass for the finalists of the Leaders of Russia competition on February 7, TASS reports.

“The plans to dismember Syria exist, we know about that”, the diplomat notes.

According to his words, Moscow intends to find out, how they are “imagining to do this”.

The US military forces are currently stationed in a number of regions in Syria. The military is active in the south-east of the country, where a military base had been established near the settlement of Al-Tanf. According to Russia’s General Staff’s data, militants of the terrorist organization ISIL (organisation banned in Russia) are being trained on this base. The US military is also located in the northern Syrian city of Manbij. They provide support for the Kurdish units from the People’s Protection Units (YPG [Kurdish – Yekineyen Parastina Gel].

The idea of reshaping the map of the Middle East has long been exciting the minds of US military. In 2006, the Armed Forces Journal [a publication for American military officers and leaders in government and industry] had published an article by a retired lieutenant colonel Ralph Peters, Blood borders: How a better Middle East would look. The article showcased a hypothetical map of the region, which showed how the Middle Eastern country borders should look like.

One of the main changes, according to Peters, should be the creation of a nation called “Free Kurdistan”. This country should have appeared as a result of confluence of territories occupied by Kurds in Syria, Iraq, and Turkey.

As such, it is very much possible that the current support of the Syrian Kurds by the USA is the first step towards the realization of the US plans in creating the “Free Kurdistan”.
