Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on August 3 that the parties reached an agreement on the way of functioning of the third de-escalation zone in Syria, RIA Novosti reported.
“Scheduled talks between Russian Defense Ministry representatives and moderate Syrian opposition took place on July 31 in Cairo. As a result, an agreement on the way of functioning of the third de-escalation zone located north of Homs city was reached”, — said Konashenkov.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry official representative, the zone includes 84 towns and villages with a total population of over 147,000 people. In the de-escalation zone Russian military police sets up checkpoints.
“According to the agreements, today, on August 3, starting from 12:00 local time, the moderate opposition groups and the government forces completely cease fire with all the weapons”, — Konashenkov noted.
During the fifth round of talks in Astana, which took place in July this year, an agreement was reached to create four de-escalation zones in Syria. Two of those located in the southwestern part of Syrian Arab Republic and in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta are already in place.
