Iranian leader: The blockade of Qatar is unacceptable

28.06.2017, Iran.

Iran is ready to support Qatar and considers its blockade by a number of the Arab countries to be unacceptable. This was stated by the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani in a telephone conversation with Emir of Qatar Tahim bin Hamad Al Thani, Interfax.ru reported on June 26 citing  Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Hassan Rouhani said that blockade of Qatar is not acceptable for Iran. Air, land and sea space of Iran is always open for Qatar as a neighboring fraternal state.

He also noted that Tehran stands with the people and government of Qatar. Tehran considers that in case of rising conflicts between countries of the region, pressure, threats, and sanctions is not the right way to settle down the disputes.

Qatar and its Al Jazeera television channel played important role in the events of “Arab Spring” in 2011 by supporting radical Islamist organizations, which staged coup d’état in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and other countries of the Arab region  and, also, attempted coup d’état in Syria. At that time, USA supported the coups of “Arab Spring” by calling them blossom of democracy.

On June 23 an ultimatum was issued to Qatar, the main requirements of which are: the cancellation of broadcasting of the Al Jazeera television channel, the cancellation of diplomatic cooperation with Iran, and refusal from military relations with Turkey.
