Drug intoxicated fighter of the Ukrainian army shot fellow combatants

A Ukrainian soldier being under the influence of hard drugs opened fire on his comrades-in-arms. The Lieutenant-Colonel Andrey Marochko, a spokesman of the Lugansk People’s Militia, informed journalists about the incident, the Lugansk Media Center reported on June 12.

The officer said that on June 10, in the village of Popasnaya, a serviceman of the third battalion of the 24th Brigade of the Ukrainian army shot his comrades-in-arms with an assault rifle after abusing narcotics.  The Lieutenant-Colonel reported further that one soldier died on the spot due to the lethal wounds he received, a second serviceman was hospitalized.

Another tragic case happened on June 8, and was also reported by the Lugansk People’s Militia. Private Taras Nikolaevich Beletsky, a gunner of the mechanized infantry Squad of the 14th Brigade, committed suicide by shooting at his head with an assault rifle. It is also reported that a suicide note was found in the clothes of the deceased serviceman. In the message, Beletsky accused his company commander, who, while in a state of intoxication, had been regularly beating up and humiliating the young man. All complaints to the higher command resulted in new mockeries by Beletsky’s commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Marochko said.

Information on increasing non-combat losses in the Ukrainian troops has repeatedly been reported earlier. One of the recent examples occurred on June 9. It became known that another serviceman of the 14th Brigade committed suicide. In the 53rd Brigade, two servicemen were heavily injured due to the violation of the safety regulations. Another two servicemen from the third battalion of the 93rd Brigade were killed as a result of negligence in handling weapons and ammunition.
