Syrian army fought off caliphatist attack in the Hama province

The Syrian army regained control over 80% of Hama province`s territory having fought off an attack by ISIL (organization banned in Russia) militants, ANF News information service states citing an unnamed source on May 18.

The Syrian national defense forces resisted the attack of militants for more than twelve hours, according to the messages of the information service. Terrorists managed to capture four villages. Nine people were executed in the village of Agaib-al-Safi. After a while,  reinforcements came to the defenders. Syrian army counterattacked and recaptured the areas earlier taken over by militants. More than twenty terrorists and two armored vehicles were eliminated by the attack of the government troops.

The information service reports about the progress of the Kurds squads which managed to dislodge terrorists from the settlement of Hamrat near Raqqa.

The government troops took control over 80% of Hama province`s territory, a Syrian TV channel reported on April 24. The fight against militants continues in the northern part of the province. The channel also reported that the government army fought off the attacks of Jabhat al-Nusra’s (organization banned in Russia) armed units.
