“Another couple of weeks of such a blockade, and Ukraine can forget about central heating and power generation as such,” the Donetsk People’s Republic Head Aleksandr Zakharchenko stated, as RIA Novosti news agency informed.
Zakharchenko notes that Ukraine will not cope with the outcomes of the transport blockade against Donbass.
It was earlier reported that Ukraine has already introduced emergency measures for power generation, which could lead to rolling blackouts affecting a significant part of the country’s population.
Recall that the first train carrying coal was blocked by Ukrainian radicals on January 25th. According to various estimates, Ukraine’s coal reserves are enough for a period from 14 to 45 days without replenishment. Kiev can neither purchase anthracite elsewhere nor use another grade of coal because of the need for an expensive modernization of thermal power plants throughout country.
