On September 1, 2004, the Day of Knowledge, when children went to the first day of school, terrorists attacked a school in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia, a republic in the Russian Federation, taking over a thousand people hostage. 335 people were killed in that terrorist attack, 186 of them were children. Over 800 people were injured.
