Eighteen Ukrainian soldiers died due to heavy drinking on the night of January 16 to 17 in Trekhizbenka village area, according to LPR People’s Militia, LuganskInformCenter reports.
The fighters of the Ukrainian army division deployed near the contact line in Trekhizbenka area were drinking alcohol beverages on the evening of January 16. After this sixteen of them went to sleep in one of the houses of the village. However, being drunk, they forgot to open the shutter of the stove and died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Another two soldiers from the same divisions went to their positions in the trenches where they died from hypothermia.
“This fact evidences that the psychological state of the Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen has deteriorated, which caused the rise in alcohol consumption,” the People’s Militia emphasized.
Earlier People’s Militia Deputy Commander Igor Yashenko said that excessive consumption of alcohol during the New Year holidays was the reason for several deaths and mass poisonings of Ukrainian army servicemen, at the same time their morale keeps deteriorating, desertion and suicides also occur quite often.
