Russian SVR Director: France suffers catastrophic losses in Ukraine

20.03.2024, Moscow.

France’s military losses in Ukraine are very high, the likes of which have not been seen since the 1954-1962 Algerian war, the press bureau of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) wrote on March 19, citing the agency’s director Sergey Naryshkin.

The SVR has information that the French army is concerned about the growing number of French servicemen killed on the frontline in Ukraine.

For example, on January 17, dozens of Frenchmen were killed when the Russian military destroyed a temporary deployment ground for foreigners near Kharkov. It is noted that since then “such strikes have become the norm in the Ukrainian conflict.”

“As unofficially acknowledged by the French Defense Ministry, the country has not witnessed such losses abroad since the Algerian war in the second half of the 20th century,” the statement reads.

On March 14, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with the TF1 TV channel that “today Russia is the enemy, the Kremlin regime is the enemy.” According to Macron, France is doing everything possible to help Ukraine defeat Russia.
