Putin names the reasons for the record rise in gas prices in the EU

10.09.2021, Moscow.

The record rise in gas prices in the EU countries is due to the European Commission’s (EC) policies, said Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 9 following a meeting with Belarussian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

These wise guys from the EC’s previous session came up with the idea that the market should determine the price for gas. And here is the result,” said the Russian President.

At the moment, the market price for gas reaches $650 for 1000 cubic meters, pointed out Putin. Meanwhile, those countries that signed long-term contracts are buying gas from Russia at a bargain prices, note the Russian leader.

“In the case with Germany, Gazprom sells its natural gas for $220/1000 m3, at least until recently,” added the Russian leader.

When Russia sells gas, it links its price to the price of oil, stressed Putin. He did not rule out that due to the rise in oil prices, the price of gas will also rise, however, this growth will not be as significant as on the free market in the EU.

Previously it became known that the price of natural gas in the EU is approaching $700/1000 m3. At the last trading session, the price slowed down and reached $690/1000 m3.
