Former Iranian President: US foreign policy is not governed by US presidents

21.06.2021, Tehran.

US presidents do not fully determine US foreign policy, former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on June 18 in an interview with PolitExpert.

Ahmadinejad was asked to comment on the Iran Nuclear Talks, which are currently taking place in Vienna, and the US policy in this matter.

According to the former president of Iran, presidents in the United States are only a small element in the decision-making system regarding the country’s foreign policy.

“We see that Mr. Biden has not in practice made any changes to Mr. Trump’s policies because foreign policy in the United States is not governed by presidents. They are only a small element in the decision-making system,” said the Iranian politician.

As president of the United States, Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the deal with Iran on the Iranian nuclear program. After that, Iran stopped implementing some provisions of the treaty on its part.

Now the parties are negotiating a possible return to a joint comprehensive plan of action on the Iranian nuclear program. Iran, Russia, China, Great Britain, France, the United States and Germany are taking part in the talks.
