Ukrainian military violates the ceasefire in the DPR more than 20 times over the week

The Ukrainian military violated the ceasefire 21 times over the past week, the Deputy Chief of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Eduard Basurin told reporters on May 28.

“A total of 21 violations of the ceasefire by the Ukrainian military were reported during the week. The enemy opened fire on towns and villages the republic with 120mm, 82mm and 60mm mortars, with BMP infantry fighting vehicle main guns, grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns and small arms,” Basurin said.

The representative of the DPR People’s Militia noted that two houses, an electrical substation and a gas pipeline in the west of Donetsk were damaged as a result of the shelling. As previously reported in the republic, the Ukrainian armed units violated the ceasefire 36 times in the previous week.

In the summer of 2020, additional measures to maintain a ceasefire in Donbass came into force, which involves the permanent ceasefire, as well as the deployment of weapons in and near villages and towns. In addition, offensive and reconnaissance and sabotage activities are prohibited.

It also envisages a ban on fortifications of positions and the use of drones near the contact line by the parties to the conflict. Disciplinary liability is envisaged for violations of the ceasefire regime.
