Expert: Russia is a pole of development for Russia's neighboring countries

16.12.2020, Moscow.

For its closest neighbors and allies, Russia may in fact be the only pole of development, Belarusian political analyst Aleksey Dzermant wrote on December 15 on his Telegram-channel.

According to him, the attraction to the pole must occur due to the powerful potential of Russia, but not by exerting pressure on the local leaders. Dzermant believes that Russian culture, in which there is an equal, fraternal, not colonial attitude toward those who choose it, plays an important role in this issue. “But this choice does not mean disregarding local cultures and denying their right to exist,” the expert said.

“The empire is not about unification, or rather, not only and not so much about it, I recall that even in the Russian Empire the Grand Duchy of Finland, the Khanate of Khiva and the Emirate of Bukhara maintained its autonomy, for example,” Dzermant wrote.

He added that the Soviet Union merely logically continued this tradition by reassembling the country on new foundation. “The empire is about the possibility of development in the greater whole, the possibility to develop the sovereignty on the global scale,” the expert said.

In his opinion, it is necessary to master new modern forms of existence of empires and powers – technologies of alliance building. “Network scolding and provocations are evidence of their absence,” Dzermant concluded.
