Syrian army eliminates three militant leaders in western Syria

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a counter-terrorist operation in the western province of Deraa, a Rossa Primavera News Agency source in Syria reports on March 19.

During the operation in the Masakin Jilin district, in the west of Deraa Province, there were eliminated three former leaders of Al-Jaysh al-Hurr (organization banned in Russia). Two of the leaders are from Deraa province and another from Homs province.

One of the de-escalation zones was established in Deraa Province in 2017. However, in 2018, the SAA liberated the entire province with the support of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria (CPRS). Some militants agreed to move to Idlib with their comrades-in-arms, some settled their status and returned to peaceful life, and some joined government forces.

However, the situation in Deraa has not been finally resolved. Many militants have not abandoned their plans and regularly try to sabotage against Syrian government forces. In late February and early March 2020, during Syrian troops operation in Idlib, there were mass demonstrations in several areas of Deraa, during which militants tried to demand new preferences from Damascus.
