China urges international community to condemn USA's INF policy

13.12.2019, Beijing.

The international community must condemn Washington’s violating international treaties, the Spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry of the People’s Republic of China Hua Chunying said on December 13 speaking to journalists.

This is how the Chinese diplomat commented on the report of USA’s launching a missile that would violate the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty provisions.

According to Chunying, Beijing believes that “the international community must sharpen its eyes and acknowledge the aggressive intentions and negative impact of USA’s systematic violation of treaties and continued missile launches.”

The Chinese diplomat stressed that it is important to protect the current arms control treaties. She urged the USA to reject the cold war thinking and contribute to global peace and security.

The INF Treaty signed by the leaders of the USA and the USSR in 1987 prohibited short and medium-range missiles. In 2017 the USA began to accuse Russia of violating the treaty without providing any evidence.

In August 2019, the USA withdrew from the treaty, and as soon as on December 12 it successfully tested a conventional medium-range ballistic missile that would be prohibited under the INF Treaty.
